Random lobbyist thought....
did you know, [while I'm not 100% sure of the facts] that it probably costs more to lobby for the internet censorship bills and fight the whole world than the total of their yearly losses due to piracy? not saying I'm for piracy, I'm against it, but I am also against stupid laws that put the flow of public information in the hands of a single corporate entity.
Protesting the us anti piracy law!
While I do believe we need some way of reducing online piracy, I do not believe this bill is the way to do it. it would allow far too much control over the internet and invasion of privacy. It would also allow illegal seizures of domains and criminal charges to be raised against innocent website owners simply because a user of the web service posted something illegal/copyrighted. While my protest against this comes a little late compared to other websites [having only just learned about it] I would like my voice to go out as well against this bill.
Do not support the current anti-piracy bill. All this bill accomplishes is to give major media companies such as those in holywood free reign to once again bring back the riaa mess and take the law into their own hands.
I would like it known that I am against piracy and we need a way to reduce it, but I am also against this bill as it's nothing more than an attempt to solve a problem by attacking the websites pirates use. when you run a large service it's impossible to keep all piracy out, the owners of such websites should not be held responsible for the actions of the members, instead the ones who should be held responsible are those who actually published such content.
this bill also requires all search engines, internet providers and so on to filter the internet, block access to websites simply because some user is publishing pirated content to it. if this were allowed even google groups would have to be blocked, most picture sharing sites, twitter, Facebook, youtube… can you imagine the number of websites that could possibly have an illegal vid or image on them? they would be required by law to block over half the internet.
Filtering the internet is not the answer! Shutting down legit websites due to abuse by users is not the answer. Unfortunately there can be no simple answer for this, but a law that puts things in the hands of the media companies is DEFINATELY not the answer.
Let it be known that the fantasyhaven anime community opposes this bill and any bills like it. they are unconstitutional as they open the door to taking away our right to free speech.
Edit, this image was posted by one of our members, thought it front page worthy!

spambots
seems spam bots have managed to invade the wiki, this wasn't supposed to be possible with how it was setup, but somehow it's happened. I will be closing down the wiki till I can find a solution. sorry for the trouble
